Physical & Mental Illness
Hypnotherapy, psychotherapy or counselling are complementary to medicine. They are not a substitute for help you may get from your GP, a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.
If you are severely depressed or feeling suicidal please see your doctor as well as coming to see me. With your consent I may contact your doctor for advice. Hypnotherapy may help you to feel better quite quickly, but do not stop taking any medication without first discussing with your doctor.
PHYSICAL ILLNESS AND PAIN
If you have unexplained physical symptoms, please see your doctor first before coming to see me, in order to diagnose, treat or rule out any medical condition.
I may inform your doctor or seek written advice before continuing with therapy.
Although hypnotherapy is a choice treatment for neurotic illness and all types of anxiety and psychological problems, it is not indicated for psychotic illness. Pychotic illness and personality disorders require diagnosis and treatment under a psychiatrist (or mental health team) in the first instance. This does not mean I am unable to help in all cases. I may be able to help once the acute symptoms (e.g. delusions, extreme behaviours etc) are under control. If I believe I can help I may write to your doctor first, explain what I intend to do and get his advice.
